 Geology Waterfall ravine cut through the Main Limestone. The softer shale strata below main limestone are undercut at the falls, see photos.
 Record Name Wensleydale. Carlton Highdale CP. Relict woodland at waterfall.
 Record Description Limestone ashwood on limestone cliffs and scree at small ravine above the falls,below a fine unnamed waterfall with on the very long north facing limestone cliff below the falls. Several fine cliff trees of different species present here including Wych Elm, Ash Bird Cherry, Downy Birch,Hazel, Sallows and other Willow sp, Hawthorn. Unlike Swaledale where yew would be present at this altitude, yew is absent from this location. Juniper is entirely absent from the Limestone Scars of Wensleydale today and native yews ar extremely rare in the Ure Catchment.(SD99957771 Centre)

 Additional Notes This record is one of several localities recorded in the Ure Catchment intended to provide comparison with similar localities at similar elevation in Swaledale. For example in comparison with the similar cliff in Upper Swaledale at East Stonesdale in Muker Parish where Yew and Juniper are both present.
